A Blessingway is based on an ancient Navajo ceremony to celebrate a woman's transition into motherhood. The Navajo have a saying, "Whatever happens here on Earth must first be dreamed". A Blessingway is a dream and a prelude to the major life event of childbirth.

Our Blessingway blends ritual elements from Native American and ancient matriarchal traditions. It honors the uniquely female rite of passage through birth into motherhood and celebrates it's magical transformation.

A Blessingway is given for the mother-to-be to celebrate her upcoming childbirth. It is different from a baby shower, which focuses on the material needs of the newborn. Instead, a Blessingway focuses on the emotional and spiritual needs of the mother.

The mother-to-be invites the women she is close to in her life to help her prepare for birth and motherhood. Her women friends form a circle of support around her which remains unbroken until the baby is safely born and the mother's milk comes in three days after the birth.

The Blessingway is held in the home where the baby will be born and fills the home with love and positive energy for the birth.

The mother is not involved in the planning of the blessingway so that she may experience the ritual from her heart rather than her head. This is an excellent exercise in surrendering for birth.
